Overview
J Schneider Studio is seeking a Structural Welding Team Lead to oversee daily operations on the job site, ensuring high-quality welding and mentoring a team of welders and fabricators. The role emphasizes hands-on leadership and precision in structural steel and architectural metal projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of welders and fabricators.
- Assign daily workloads and monitor project progress to ensure production deadlines are met.
- Perform high-quality SMAW (Stick Welding) on structural steel, heavy plate, and custom architectural metal projects.
- Read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Inspect welds and fabricated assemblies to ensure compliance with company quality standards and project specifications.
- Coordinate and communicate clearly with the Project Manager, Lead Fabricator, and Creative Director.
- Communicate professionally with builders and clients.
- Train new employees on welding procedures, fabrication techniques, safety practices, and equipment operation.
- Enforce OSHA safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized shop and job site environment.
- Monitor inventory of welding consumables and fabrication materials.
- Assist with scheduling manpower, equipment, and fabrication priorities.
- Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and recommend process improvements.
- Operate shop equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, grinders, plasma cutters, and oxy-fuel equipment.
- Travel with overnight stays as projects require.
- Perform other fabrication and shop leadership duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of professional stick welding (SMAW) experience.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and welding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
- Experience fitting and fabricating structural steel assemblies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and production schedules.
- Clean driving record and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds and work in a physically demanding shop environment.
