Overview
This role focuses on performing high-quality MIG and flux core structural and plate welding on bridge and large office building projects. The position requires passing a hands-on weld test administered to AWS D1.5 bridge welding specifications prior to employment.
Responsibilities
- Perform MIG and flux core welding on structural steel and plate components for bridge and large office building projects.
- Execute critical structural welds that comply with strict state and federal transportation codes and project specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints and welding drawings to plan and complete welds accurately.
- Fit and assemble structural steel components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and structural integrity.
- Follow the company Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) precisely, including all parameters and settings for FCAW welding.
- Complete a 3G vertical up weld test in accordance with AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code, using 1/16" diameter FCAW filler metal.
- Prepare and grind test plates flush for radiographic (X-ray) testing to verify internal weld soundness per AWS D1.5 acceptance criteria.
- Maintain high standards of weld quality, including bead size, penetration, and appearance.
- Use fabrication tools and grinding equipment safely to prepare materials, finish welds, and meet required tolerances.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, meeting production goals while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with supervisors and team members to coordinate work, resolve technical issues, and ensure project timelines are met.
- Adhere to all site safety protocols and guidelines while working in largely outdoor conditions on structural steel projects.
