Overview

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is seeking an Automotive Equipment Mechanic II for the North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC), a forensic mental health rehabilitation facility. This position involves performing mechanical and electrical repairs on the center's fleet vehicles and equipment, requiring independent judgment and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and perform mechanical and electrical repair work on fleet vehicles and lawn equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on approximately 12 fleet vehicles weekly, monthly, and quarterly.
• Document and record each vehicle's mileage, overall condition, and fuel usage.
• Independently repair and service gas motor vehicles, Diesel tractors, and lawn equipment.
• Perform repairs or replacements on various vehicle components such as belts, spark plugs, and fluid levels.
• Maintain fuel levels in all vehicles and ensure the fuel pump is operational.
• Detect and determine problems related to vehicle maintenance.
• Provide 24-hour service to all NFETC vehicles and respond to emergencies as needed.
• Organize and clean tools and garage for maintenance personnel.
• Assist other maintenance personnel with various tasks as required.
• Perform oxygen-acetylene cutting, MIG, or arc welding when needed.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in automotive repair work.
• Vocational/technical training in automotive repair can substitute for a maximum of one year of experience.
• Knowledge of automotive repair principles and techniques.
• Skill in using hand tools and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to perform a variety of automotive equipment repairs.
• Ability to operate motor vehicles and inspect equipment.
• Ability to provide instruction to lower-level mechanics.
• Ability to perform welding and repair fuel injection systems.
