Overview
You will serve as a WELDER LEADER (EXPERT) in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY at various naval shipyards. This position is located in the Structural Shop (Shop 26) and involves leading welding operations while ensuring quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Perform reviews of documents associated with completed work and trade processes.
- Keep shop personnel apprised of new technologies, procedures, and tooling improvements for welding work.
- Provide process improvements and work with engineering to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Inspect completed and in-process work for quality of workmanship and adherence to requirements.
- Train and mentor less skilled employees and demonstrate proper work methods.
- Lead a group to ensure work assignments are completed.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Must complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random testing.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.
- Must wear personal protective equipment continuously during work shifts.
- Must hold two common welding qualifications in either SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, or similar.
- Must maintain visual inspection qualifications per VT-271.
- Ability to lead or supervise is a screen-out element for eligibility.
Additional Information
- Work is performed in areas with potentially harmful physical and chemical agents.
- May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS.
- May include remote or isolated sites and require climbing vertical ladders.
- May require working uncommon tours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position requires rotating shift work.
