Overview

You will serve as a Welder Leader (Expert) in the Department of Navy, working at various naval shipyards including Portsmouth, Puget Sound, Norfolk, and Pearl Harbor. This position is located in the Structural Shop and involves leading a team of welders while ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform reviews of documents associated with completed work and trade processes.
• Keep shop personnel informed of new technologies, procedures, and tooling improvements for welding work.
• Provide process improvements and collaborate with engineering to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
• Inspect completed and in-process work for quality and adherence to requirements.
• Train and mentor less skilled employees, demonstrating proper work methods.
• Lead a group to ensure work assignments are completed.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random testing.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.
• Must wear personal protective equipment continuously during work shifts.
• Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
• Must be able to climb vertical ladders when working aboard ships and submarines.
• Must hold two common welding qualifications in specified welding methods.
• Must maintain visual inspection qualifications per VT-271.

Additional Information

• Work may require travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
• Position may require rotating shift work and uncommon tours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• This is a bargaining unit position.
