Job Description

Overview

Birdon America, Inc. is seeking a Welder Class 1 to join their growing team at the new Port of Pensacola location. This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply welding skills in a new Advanced Maritime Manufacturing Center.

Responsibilities

  • Perform FCAW, GMAW, and/or GTAW welding on carbon steel and aluminum components according to project specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and work instructions to complete fabrication and welding tasks accurately.
  • Set up, adjust, and safely operate welding machines, grinders, cutting tools, and related fabrication equipment.
  • Inspect completed welds, identify defects, and make necessary repairs to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Work safely in shop, vessel, and confined-space environments while following safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with Foreman, fitters, inspectors, and team members to meet production schedules.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for tools, equipment, and materials.

Requirements

  • Transportation Workers Identification Credentials (TWIC).
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in FCAW on carbon steel, GMAW on aluminum, and/or GTAW on aluminum.
  • Must pass a NAVSEA Tech qual #248 Certification pre-employment weld test, 2G and 3G.
  • Must be able to weld in positions 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be able to set up own equipment.
  • Must be able to read blueprints.
  • Possess strong attention to detail for quality assurance.
  • Excellent math skills with the ability to read a tape measure accurately.
  • Ability to operate power equipment safely and comply with safety standards.
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic and good communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and enter confined spaces.

Additional Information

  • Selected candidates will train and work in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, for approximately 30 days before transferring to the Pensacola location.
  • Travel reimbursement will be provided.
