Overview

HII is seeking a Welder to join their Global Security group, which provides maintenance and repairs on aircraft carriers. The position involves working with skilled trades teams to support various welding processes and mechanical techniques in Chesapeake, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on high and low pressure piping systems.
  • Install pipe hangers and structural foundations onboard ships.
  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, fabrication, and replacement of structural components.
  • Apply various welding processes including preheating, brazing, and flame cutting.
  • Ensure compliance with NAVSEA and OSHA hot work standards during welding operations.
  • Complete all work according to OEM specifications and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High School education or Trade School equivalent with 6 years of welding experience in marine or industrial environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance and base access.
  • Proficiency in multiple welding positions and processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and OEM specifications.
  • Experience with torch cutting, hammer forging, grinding, and fitting of metal parts.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Ability to work in Naval Bases/shipyard environments and comply with safety requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a structural X-Ray Test for SMAW and a Macro-Etch for thin wall pipe.

Additional Information

  • Full-time position located in Chesapeake, VA.
  • Required travel to local shipyards and military bases with Per Diem provided.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and work in extreme temperature environments.
