Overview

VIAVI is a global provider of network test, monitoring and assurance solutions. The Welder/Fabricator position involves direct factory support, including building and repairing equipment, machining parts, and assisting engineering with modifications.

Responsibilities

• Build new equipment.
• Repair downed equipment.
• Machine parts to prepare for welding.
• Fabricate sheet metal.
• Perform welding and brazing.
• Make tooling and fixtures.
• Drill and tap various metals.
• Fabricate and modify one-off parts for internal use.
• Assist engineering with equipment modifications for research and development.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years general metal fabrication experience.
• Able to weld Tig & Mig steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
• Sheetmetal fabrication experience including using a brake and shear.
• Able to solder (hard and soft) with Oxy-Acetylene torch.
• Able to use shop equipment including manual mills and lathes.
• Able to assemble intricate machinery from schematics and drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow instructions.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Assist engineers in identifying and implementing improvements to production machines.
• Be computer literate with knowledge of Windows operating systems.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and weld symbols.
• Experience with any CAD software and CNC is a plus.
• Safety conscious and able to work safely in the shop and on the factory floor.
• Efficient, clean, and organized worker.
• Quality conscious and able to inspect own work.
• Strong problem-solving skills and able to work independently as well as in teams.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.
