Overview

The Welder position involves waterfront shipboard construction and re-modernization tasks on U.S. Naval ships, requiring the application of various welding processes in challenging temperature conditions. The role is based at shipyards and drydocks, emphasizing safety and adherence to specifications.

Responsibilities

• Applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other materials that require welding.
• Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
• Lays out and marks points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
• Uses measuring instruments and hand tools to position pieces that require welding into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps.
• May inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
• Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Participates in special projects, as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 1+ years of related experience.
• US Citizenship required.
• Skills in Blueprints, Welding, and Welding Procedures.
• Required certifications in MIG (Aluminum GMAW), Flux core (FCAW carbon steel and stainless), and Stick weld (carbon steel stainless SMAW).
• Preferred experience in TIG (all metals GTAW, CUNI and copper/face feed) and Certification in Brazing.
