Overview
The Aluminum Welder I position at Birdon America Inc. is crucial for daily operations at the Bayou La Batre, AL shipyard. The role involves proficient aluminum welding and requires a minimum of three years of experience in the field.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and ship drawings.
- Fit, tack, and weld assemblies for hulls, decks, superstructures, and outfitting.
- Weld aluminum proficiently.
- Perform rework and repairs as required by QA/QC or inspection results.
- Weld in any position (uphill, horizontal, vertical, or flat).
- Operate power equipment safely and comply with all safety standards.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an Aluminum Welder.
- Possess a High School Diploma or a GED.
- Fundamental knowledge in marine or manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in MIG and/or TIG aluminum welding.
- Knowledge of aluminum alloys commonly used in shipbuilding (e.g., 5083, 5086, 6061).
- Ability to produce quality work with minimum to no rework.
- Excellent math skills with the ability to read a tape measure accurately.
- Understanding of welding distortion control and heat input management.
