Overview
The WELDER LEADER (EXPERT) position at the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY involves overseeing welding operations at various naval shipyards, ensuring quality workmanship and process improvements while mentoring less skilled employees.
Responsibilities
- Perform reviews of documents associated with completed work and trade processes.
- Keep shop personnel informed of new technologies, procedures, and tooling improvements for welding work.
- Provide process improvements and collaborate with engineering to reduce costs and enhance efficiency.
- Inspect completed and in-process work for quality and adherence to specifications.
- Train and mentor less skilled employees, demonstrating proper work methods.
- Lead a group of welders to ensure work assignments are completed.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Must complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.
- Must wear personal protective equipment during work shifts.
- Ability to travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations, including remote sites.
- Ability to climb vertical ladders when working aboard ships and submarines.
- Must hold two common welding qualifications in specified welding methods.
- Must maintain visual inspection qualifications per VT-271.
