Overview

You will serve as a WELDER LEADER (EXPERT) in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY, working at various naval shipyards including Portsmouth, Puget Sound, Norfolk, and Pearl Harbor. This position is located in the Structural Shop (Shop 26) and involves leading a team in welding tasks and ensuring quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform reviews of documents associated with completed work and trade processes.
  • Keep shop personnel informed of new technologies, procedures, and tooling improvements for welding work.
  • Provide process improvements and collaborate with engineering to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Inspect completed and in-process work for quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Train and mentor less skilled employees, demonstrating proper work methods.
  • Lead a group to ensure work assignments are completed.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment continuously during work.
  • Work is performed in areas with potentially harmful physical and chemical agents.
  • May require travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders when working aboard ships and submarines.
  • Must hold two common welding qualifications in specified methods.
  • Must maintain visual inspection qualifications per VT-271.
