Job Description

Overview

Keel is a company formed by combining expertise in steel fabrication, shipbuilding, aerospace, and defense manufacturing. As a Welder Team Lead on the 2nd shift, you will assist in leading fabrication workers to ensure quality production and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with leading, mentoring, and developing Welder I and II.
  • Perform job safely and ensure the safety of subordinates.
  • Assist the supervisor in managing daily expectations to accomplish goals for the shift.
  • Perform daily audits of team members for procedural compliance.
  • Read and interpret job travelers, blueprints, drawings, welding procedures, and joint surface index.
  • Set up and troubleshoot advanced welding machines.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of grinding, gouging, and weld repair.
  • Deliver and receive constructive criticism and apply lessons learned.
  • Conduct Pre-Shift brief on safety issues and production goals.
  • Assist supervisor with project documentation.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Minimize production downtime by escalating issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a respectful and professional approach while leading the team.
  • Promote a culture of mentoring and development.
  • Help enforce all company policies and procedures.
  • Drive housekeeping within the team and maintain 5S standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of an accredited weld training program or equivalent.
  • 3 or more years of demonstrated NAVSEA experience.
  • Welding Certification from an accredited program preferred.
  • Successful completion of 10 weld tests in various welding techniques.
  • Successful completion of Welder Workmanship Training (WWT).
  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing welded steel products.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment safely and independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional groups.
  • Ability to build a high-performing team and lead by example.
  • Ability to coach and mentor the workforce in trade skills.
  • Ability to collect and display performance data on the shop floor.
