Job Description

Overview

THOR Solutions is seeking a Technical Instructor (Marine Welding & Systems) to provide technical and professional support services at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA. This position is contingent upon contract award, anticipated for September 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver instructional programs for technical courses in welding, brazing, and other ship fundamentals.
  • Ensure students receive high-quality education through effective instruction and hands-on training.
  • Train students and shipboard personnel on safety requirements and standard maintenance procedures.
  • Develop and maintain classroom techniques that reflect professionalism and high motivation.
  • Administer, grade, and critique examinations; prepare and administer remedial assignments as needed.
  • Submit written recommendations for curriculum updates.
  • Examine and troubleshoot equipment to determine repair needs.
  • Identify and resolve technical problems, providing recommendations to management.
  • Be responsible for all personnel welding/brazing records.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety requirements within the shop area.
  • Maintain understanding of all Naval welding/brazing standards and instructions.
  • Conduct quarterly self-assessments and correct discrepancies found during audits.
  • Assist with the maintenance, utilization, and inventory of department tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ten years of full-time, hands-on welding and brazing experience onboard naval vessels.
  • Prior Military or shipyard experience is preferred.
  • Must be certified or able to certify 6G P-73 and 4F/5F P-14 carbon steel (SMAW) weld tests.
  • Must be certified or able to certify 4F/5F P-14 and 6G P-73 carbon and stainless (GTAW) weld tests.
  • Must be certified or able to certify vertical and horizontal Grade III, IV, and V brazing tests.
  • Must be certified or able to certify in welder and brazer Workmanship requirements.
  • Existing active or interim Secret security clearance required.
