Overview

The Welder position involves welding shell plating and fabricated components for vessels, tanks, or other structural assemblies, with a focus on safety and quality. General Dynamics NASSCO is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.
• Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape and groove metal.
• May prepare workplace for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
• Examines weld sizes of weld beads.
• Cleans weld area; sweeps and removes scrap.
• Performs other job duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade.

Requirements

• Previous experience or training is required.
• Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in three positions.
• Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal is necessary.
• Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Must comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.
• Must be able to hear warning signals and read safety instructions.
