Overview
You will serve as a WELDER LEADER (EXPERT) in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY at various naval shipyards. This position is located in the Structural Shop (Shop 26) and involves leading a team of welders while ensuring quality and efficiency in welding processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform reviews of documents associated with completed work and trade processes.
- Keep shop personnel informed of new technologies, procedures, and tooling improvements for welding work.
- Provide process improvements and collaborate with engineering to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Inspect completed and in-process work for quality and adherence to specifications.
- Train and mentor less skilled employees and demonstrate proper work methods.
- Lead a group as an Expert Welder to ensure work assignments are completed.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Must complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.
- Must wear personal protective equipment continuously during work shifts.
- Ability to travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
- Ability to climb vertical ladders when working aboard ships and submarines.
- Must hold two common welding qualifications in specified welding methods.
- Must maintain visual inspection qualifications per VT-271.
Additional Information
- Work may require an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position may require rotating shift work.
- Salary is based on geographical location and subject to change with annual local wage surveys.
