Overview
This position is for a Welder at the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, located in the Industrial Production Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana. The role involves performing various welding assignments on boats, ships, and associated equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding assignments on barges, boats, ships, and small vessels.
- Weld various components including shell, engine parts, framing, and tanks.
- Make welds in all positions including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
- Remove and replace interferences in the way of welds.
- Fit brackets, machinery foundations, and minor structural braces.
- Take fire and safety precautions while welding.
- Adjust welding controls to maintain qualified procedures.
- Apply knowledge of manual welding processes and difficult welds.
- Use various welding methods including gas metal-arc and shielded metal arc welding.
- Understand welding standards and metal reactions to different processes.
- Read blueprints, sketches, and online drawings for component layout.
