Overview

This position is for a Welder at the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, located in the Industrial Production Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana. The role involves performing various welding assignments on boats, ships, and associated equipment, making the individual a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding assignments on barges, boats, ships, and small vessels.
  • Weld various components including engine parts, framing, tanks, and piping.
  • Execute welds in all positions: flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
  • Remove and replace interferences in the way of welds.
  • Fit brackets, machinery foundations, and minor structural braces.
  • Take fire and safety precautions during welding operations.
  • Adjust welding controls to maintain qualified welding procedures.
  • Apply knowledge of manual welding processes and difficult welds.
  • Work with various welding methods including gas metal-arc and shielded metal arc.
  • Understand welding standards and the reactions of different metals to welding processes.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, and online drawings for component layout.
