We are currently looking for a Project Engineer/CAD Designer to join our dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team. The Project Engineer / CAD Designer will be responsible for assisting in the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects. This dual-role position combines technical design and project execution, including developing detailed CAD drawings and models, coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, contractors, and optimizing fabrication processes to achieve project success.
What You Will Be Doing
Project Planning and Coordination: Assist in creating and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets for complex fabrication projects, providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle. Coordinate with project teams and stakeholders to ensure project requirements and objectives are clearly defined and met. Stakeholder Communication: Communicate project progress, issues, and updates to stakeholders and management. Prepare and maintain project documentation, including reports, presentations, and technical documents. Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, procurement, and construction, to ensure seamless project execution. Support and collaborate with senior engineers and project managers in executing project tasks. Project Design and Technical Support: Review and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, specifications, welding requirements, and quality standards to ensure accuracy and compliance with customer expectations. Prepare detailed piping and fabrication work packages that meet the latest industry standards, including AISC, AWS, ASTM, ASME, MIL, NAVSEA, and internal Rhoads standards. Produce precise shop drawings and fabrication details using AutoCAD and Inventor and prepare electronic files for fabrication processes. Provide on-site engineering support, including field measurements, design verification, and the development of practical design solutions, as well as design and documentation of field modifications based on Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and field conditions. Quality Assurance: Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and comply with industry regulations. Participate in inspections and audits to verify compliance with project specifications. Monitor project progress and assist in implementing corrective actions as needed. Resource Management: Assist in managing project resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials. Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to implementing best practices to enhance project performance. Additional duties as assigned.
Your Background
B.S. in Engineering, Construction Technology, other related discipline, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience required. US Citizenship required 3+ years of experience in project engineering and/or CAD design related roles. Experience level may vary depending on business needs. Experience with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks). Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point. Experience with engineering principles, design standards, and industry regulations. Ability to work well in a team environment. Analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail. Ability to communicate requirements in an industrial environment, and to give effective direction by using written and/or verbal skills where appropriate. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities at once. Ability to work additional hours as necessary to meet business plan objectives. Familiarity with Primavera P6, MS Project, and MS Dynamics is a plus. Mature Customer Service and Client Communications skills.
The Work Environment at Rhoads
The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required. Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, and driving in an automobile. May require walking and standing on irregular, uneven surfaces in an industrial setting and possibly at increased heights climbing and descending ladders and ship stairways. Ability to lift 50 lbs. stand/walk for long periods and climb a ladder.
