Overview

Behr Iron & Metal, an Alter Trading Corporation Company, is seeking a reliable and mechanically inclined Maintenance Mechanic for its Rockford, IL location. The role involves overseeing maintenance programs and ensuring plant safety while working with metal recycling industry-specific equipment.

Responsibilities

• Promote plant safety programs and procedures.
• Oversee maintenance and preventative maintenance programs.
• Direct the maintenance team for plant equipment and facilities.
• Provide mechanical expertise to reduce equipment downtime.
• Maintain documentation and records for equipment status.
• Communicate with the team regarding equipment availability.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 5+ years in a similar maintenance environment.
• Diesel power over hydraulic experience preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two-year AAS (technical degree) and/or technical certification in welding, hydraulics, electrical systems or industrial mechanics preferred.
• Ability to do welding and fabricating work preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting low voltage circuitry (24 volt, 12 volt, or 10 volt).
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills required.
• Familiarity with heavy mobile equipment such as forklifts, loaders, and material separators a plus.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 30-50 pounds.
• Ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to work outside.
