Overview

The Welder - Journeyman position involves performing skilled gas and electric welding, including fabrication and repairs to existing equipment, in a responsible and accurate manner at the Physical Plant Operations in Oakland Park.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled work in all types of gas and electric welding.
  • Fabricate items from prints and drawings.
  • Order materials and maintain records with an emphasis on safety and cost.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of various welding techniques including electric, gas, heliarc, PAC, MIG, and TIG.
  • Operate portable welding equipment away from the shop.
  • Assume responsibility and effect repairs without assistance.

Requirements

  • Standard high school diploma or GED.
  • Five years of recent professionally paid work experience as a welder.
  • Knowledge of prints and drawings for fabrication.
  • Ability to perform various types of welding.
  • Thorough knowledge of all types of metal and proper welding methods.
  • Considerable knowledge of welding shop equipment.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication including duct work.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy materials.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must provide own hand tools.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing required.
  • Work Calendar: 261 Day Calendar.
  • Pay Grade: TC2401.
  • Classification: Nonexempt.
