Overview

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. is seeking a Shipfitter 3/C to perform craft-specific duties to support steel construction and repairs on marine vessels. This position requires adherence to safety regulations and the ability to work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance at work and ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies.
• Assist in aligning parts using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
• Assist in installing packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories.
• Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
• Lay out parts, bulkheads, and frames.
• Loft parts from a table of offsets.
• Build bulkheads and decks with assistance from supervisor.
• Flag cranes and perform rigging of small lifts and bulkheads.
• Perform general layout work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent plus one year shipfitting experience desired.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools to construct marine vessels.
• Ability to cut and burn with a torch.
• Ability to tack weld with 7018, 6011 stainless rod, MIG, and aluminum.
• Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to read and understand simple blueprints.
• Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
