Sulzer is a leading engineering company with a proud heritage of innovation. The Welder role involves using specialized machinery for industrial welding, maintaining and repairing machinery, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain proper training certification (GTAW, SMAW, SAW, etc.)
  • Be capable of reading all prints issued to the welding department
  • Accurately follow welding instructions to provide quality welds within the appropriate approved methods
  • Ability to use and operate overhead cranes, torches, grinders, and forklifts
  • Work closely and communicate clearly with other departments, Weld personnel, Supervisor, and Lead Man
  • Maintain LEAN objectives within the department
  • Proactively engage and support company initiatives designed to promote a culture of safe working, environmental protection, and continual improvement

Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of turbo machinery repair
  • Must have the required tools to perform their expected tasks within 6 months of hire
  • Must be able to use precision measuring instruments
  • Must be able to work overtime when necessary

What you'll be running

This posting calls for TIG and Stick work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work.
