Overview
The Boilermaker 1 position involves maintenance work on various piping systems and coal-fired boiler components, requiring troubleshooting skills and experience with flue gas desulfurization processes. Candidates must be self-motivated and able to work in challenging environments, including heights and confined spaces.
Responsibilities
- Remove, replace, and repair various piping systems.
- Work on coal-fired boiler components including soot blowers, burners, and dampers.
- Troubleshoot and detect issues with machines and equipment in a coal-fired power plant.
- Dismantle and reassemble pumps.
- Read specifications to determine the scope of work.
- Identify tools required for tasks and use them properly.
- Identify safety risks and implement precautions.
- Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
- Hoist equipment and tools into location using bull rigging or crane.
- Perform minor pipe fabrication and prepare pipe and steel for welding.
- Follow directions from supervision and demonstrate leadership abilities.
- Read basic blueprints and understand craft specifications.
- Know safe rigging practices and components.
- Understand pipe connection procedures and use a torque wrench.
- Read cut sheets and execute work based on drawings.
- Utilize specialty tools and maintain equipment.
- Perform basic maintenance inspections and safe operation practices.
Requirements
- Must possess all Knowledge Skills and Abilities for the position.
- 6 plus years of experience required.
- NCCER written or NCCER Plus certification is mandatory.
- Must meet all physical requirements.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Must have all required tools.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Ability to work a rotating schedule including nights and weekends.
- Self-motivated individual.
