Overview

Optimized Process Designs, LLC (OPD) is seeking an Ironworker Helper for a jobsite in Baytown II, Texas. OPD is an engineering and construction company with expertise in the natural gas and petrochemical industries, known for its integrity and ability to execute projects efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and secure structural supports according to specifications and instruction from Ironworker.
• Possess basic practical knowledge of structural steel assembly and installation.
• Demonstrate willingness to learn and understand structural drawings.
• Use torque wrench and impact gun in structural work.
• Understand setup and required tools and materials for safe heavy lifts.
• Assist Ironworker in attaching loads using chains, slings, cables, and hooks.
• Manually handle and securely apply rigging equipment.
• Take direction from the Ironworker on attaching and detaching loads.
• Effectively communicate with the rigging team.
• Be familiar with standard crane hand signals.
• Learn to assess weight capacity and drawing indicators for lift points.
• Learn to cut i-beams with grinder, torch, or band saw per structural drawing.
• Work at heights in man baskets or on elevated platforms over 80% of the time.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience as an ironworker helper.
• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math.
• Knowledge of crane signals (hand and verbal).
• Must follow company safety procedures and industry best practices.
• Ability to wear an approved full body harness and lanyard for elevated work.
• Willingness to travel and work extended periods away from home.
• Ability to work shifts up to 12 hours per day and 7 days a week when needed.
