Overview
We are seeking an experienced Steel Fabrication Operations Manager to lead a skilled fabrication team responsible for building highly engineered, custom process equipment and industrial systems. This role will oversee day-to-day fabrication operations, production scheduling, manpower planning, quality, safety, and on-time project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of approximately 10–20 fabricators and welders.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily shop fabrication activities.
- Review fabrication drawings, blueprints, layouts, and work packages.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, and production priorities.
- Oversee fabrication of tanks, skids, piping, structural components, pressure vessels, and custom equipment.
- Ensure fabrication activities meet required quality, safety, schedule, and labor-budget objectives.
- Apply knowledge of MIG, TIG, Flux-Core, and structural welding processes.
- Coordinate closely with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, and Assembly.
- Monitor production progress and address schedule, labor, material, and technical issues.
- Drive continuous improvement in shop organization, productivity, quality, and workflow.
- Coach, mentor, and develop fabrication and welding personnel.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and productive fabrication environment.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable AWS and ASME standards.
- Provide production updates, reporting, and operational communication to management.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on steel fabrication experience.
- 5+ years of experience leading fabrication/welding teams.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, layouts, and fabrication work packages.
- Advanced knowledge of MIG, TIG, Flux-Core, and structural welding.
- Experience fabricating tanks, skids, piping, pressure vessels, structural steel, or custom industrial equipment.
- Working knowledge of AWS and ASME fabrication standards.
- Proven experience with production planning, scheduling, manpower allocation, and shop-floor coordination.
- Experience managing quality, safety, productivity, labor hours, and project schedules.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Technical degree, engineering degree, or relevant formal technical education preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
- Local candidates in the Santa Fe Springs/Los Angeles area are strongly preferred.
