Overview

The Structure Maintainer C (Ironworker) position involves performing ironwork on subway, surface, and elevated structures under supervision. This full-time role requires passing a Civil Service Exam for permanent status and includes various responsibilities related to structural maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ironwork on subway, surface, and elevated structures including stations and related buildings.
  • Conduct incidental painting and other structural work as necessary.
  • Perform shoring, welding, burning, rigging, high-strength bolting, and rivet removal on steel structures.
  • Execute electric welding, brazing, acetylene cutting, and sheet metal work on railcar bodies.
  • Load, unload, and drive trucks and vans.
  • Work in various physical conditions including heights and confined spaces.

Requirements

  • Completion of a four-year apprenticeship in the ironwork trade or five years of journey-level experience as an ironworker.
  • Three years of journey-level experience plus completion of specific educational requirements.
  • Two years of experience as a helper or trainee in ironwork or graduation from a vocational or trade school in a related field.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in New York with no disqualifying restrictions.
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English.
