Overview
The Substation Technician C is a non-exempt position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment and systems, requiring a working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment. The role involves physical labor, working in confined spaces, and may require travel to various locations, including Florida.
Responsibilities
- Perform construction, maintenance, or repair, testing, adjusting, and troubleshooting of substation equipment/systems.
- Work on concrete foundations, ground grids, and steel erection.
- Handle buswork (high and low voltage) and airbreak/hookstick switches.
- Manage control cable terminations (high/low voltage) and control buildings.
- Install conduit and duck banks, as well as capacitor banks from 23kv to 230kv.
- Work with transformers, regulators, circuit breakers, and circuit switchers.
- Maintain company vehicles, test equipment, and tools in good working condition.
- Work with energized high voltage systems while ensuring safety.
Requirements
- Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
- Capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet.
- Must possess or be capable of obtaining a Commercial Drivers’ License.
- Must supply own personal hand tools and safety toed work boots.
- Capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
- Able to work in confined spaces/areas.
- Must be capable of learning to operate various types of heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of substation structural drawings.
- Willing to work overtime or long hours during emergency conditions.
Additional Information
- 90% travel required.
- Schedules can change frequently and with short notice.
- Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends and holidays.
