Overview

The Structure Maintainer A (Carpenter) position at New York City Transit involves performing carpentry work in subway, surface, and elevated structures. This full-time role requires passing a Civil Service Exam for permanent status and includes various responsibilities related to structural maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform carpentry work in subway, surface, and elevated structures.
• Conduct incidental painting and related structural work as necessary.
• Use hand and power tools, including power saws and drills.
• Load and unload trucks, lift and carry heavy tools and materials.
• Drive trucks and vans to various work locations.
• Work on elevated structures, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Respond to signals on tracks and may serve as a flagger.

Requirements

• Completed a four-year apprenticeship in the carpentry trade.
• Three years of full-time experience as a journey-level carpenter.
• Two years of full-time satisfactory experience at the journey level plus additional qualifications.
• Graduation from a recognized trade school or technical school in carpentry or a related field.
• Possession of a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License or a Motor Vehicle Driver License with a Learner Permit for a Class B CDL.
