Overview
Valmont is a Fortune 1000 company that focuses on advancing agricultural productivity and reimagining vital infrastructure. The Structural Back Welder position involves operating a sub-arc welder to ensure quality and timely production of pole shafts.
Responsibilities
- Operate a sub-arc welder and place a weld on one or four sides of the shafts.
- Gouge and grind required areas clean enough to pass ultrasonic inspections post weld.
- Effect repairs and ensure quality prior to submitting the shaft for inspection by quality.
- Move pole shafts into the seaming processor as directed by the supervisor.
- Weld, grind, and repair each pole prior to presenting it to the Quality Inspectors.
- Repair all seaming defects as directed by the Quality Inspectors.
- Maintain accountability and perform maintenance on essential tools and welding equipment.
- Work timely and expeditiously to deliver an on-time product without manufacturing errors.
- Participate in department safety and demonstrate excellent safety practices.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Pass an AWS welder qualification test and use sub-arc welding equipment without difficulty.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a heavy manufacturing environment or graduation from an accredited trade school with one year of experience.
- Knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals and alloys.
- Thorough knowledge of welding procedures and practices.
- Ability to calculate formulas using basic mathematics and standard U.S. and Metric Measurements.
- Knowledgeable of Valmont’s quality procedures, standards, and practices.
- Maintain an acceptable level of production, quality, and attendance as determined by Management.
