Overview
NorthStar Energy Services, a Quanta Services, Inc. company, is seeking an experienced Designer to join their Professional Engineering Consulting team in Arlington or Houston, Texas. This role involves hands-on leadership for complex deliverables while supporting project execution.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain 3D models of foundation and structural steel systems using CADWorx Plant/CADWorx Structure.
- Produce detailed design drawings, layouts, and models from engineering calculations, specifications, and conceptual sketches.
- Independently generate and update 3D structural models and 2D engineering drawings throughout project lifecycle.
- Coordinate with engineering and design disciplines to ensure proper model integration and design accuracy.
- Participate in 3D model coordination activities, including clash detection and interface resolution.
- Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction personnel, and equipment suppliers.
- Assist Discipline Engineers in reviewing structural steel shop fabrication drawings.
- Utilize Autodesk Navisworks for 3D model navigation and multidisciplinary design reviews.
- Support project teams in maintaining accurate models and drawing documentation.
- Compile and maintain project documentation, including status reports and material quantity calculations.
- Produce 2D detailed drawings and prepare drawing packages for various deliverables.
- Apply established quality control procedures and checklists for deliverables.
- Support design reviews and client meetings by preparing civil-structural deliverables.
- Maintain revision control and ensure all updates are captured as construction-ready documentation.
- Prepare concrete details and location drawings for support foundations.
- Develop concrete foundation detail drawings for equipment.
- Produce structural detail and layout drawings for equipment skids and access platforms.
- Create demolition drawings for existing civil and structural components.
- Prepare reinforcement schedules and structural bill of materials.
- Research and apply company drafting standards and regulatory codes.
- Perform independent QA/QC reviews of civil-structural design and deliverables.
- Verify that site-development drawings align with civil-structural design intent.
- Support Professional Engineers during the design phase.
- Coordinate civil-structural drafting requirements with multi-discipline project teams.
- Review drawings from other disciplines for coordination and consistency.
- Review and respond to Request for Information (RFIs) throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review third-party vendor drawings for compatibility with civil-structural design.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in civil-structural systems design.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with AutoCAD, CADWorx, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.
- Detailed knowledge of Codes and current Standards, including ACI 318, AISC, and OSHA.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, and project managers.
