Overview

Stanley Consultants is a global consulting engineering firm dedicated to client experience and solving complex challenges. They are seeking a Bridge Engineer for their Chicago, IL office to perform structural engineering design and analysis for various transportation structures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering design and analysis for steel and concrete bridges, retaining walls, culverts, foundations, and other transportation structures.
  • Develop structural calculations, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for preliminary and final bridge designs in coordination with project engineers and CADD staff.
  • Apply AASHTO LRFD and applicable Illinois DOT, Illinois Tollway, Chicago DOT, and other agency standards and procedures throughout the design process.
  • Perform engineering calculations for superstructure and substructure components, including steel and prestressed concrete girders, piers, abutments, retaining walls, and deep foundations.
  • Perform bridge rehabilitation, structural evaluation, and load rating analyses of existing structures as project needs require.
  • Coordinate structural design with roadway, geotechnical, drainage, traffic, CADD, and other disciplines to develop complete and coordinated transportation design packages.
  • Participate in project and technical meetings with clients and agencies, including Illinois DOT and Illinois Tollway, and assist in resolving design, constructability, and other technical issues.
  • Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide construction support under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Independently manage assigned structural design tasks, coordinate with senior engineers and project managers, participate in quality control reviews, and collaborate with bridge engineering teams across Stanley Consultants offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Ability to obtain a Structural Engineer (SE) license within two years; Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • 4-7 years of experience in structural/bridge engineering design.
  • Familiarity with Illinois DOT, Illinois Tollway, and Chicago DOT standards and procedures.
  • Experience with bridge design, load rating, and inspection of various structure types.
  • Experience in bridge load rating analyses using AASHTO LRFR and LFR, as well as familiarity with bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS.
  • Design experience using AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codes and standards; Familiarity with AREMA design codes is a plus.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software, including CSi Bridge, SAP2000, and STAAD.Pro for 3D modeling and analysis.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations for verification of superstructure and substructure components.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience in coordinating with clients and preparing technical reports.
