Overview
Steel America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a Welder Foreman to support operations at their site in Norfolk, VA. This first-level supervisory role involves managing a team of skilled trades personnel to ensure safe and efficient production in ship repair and industrial fabrication operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage key activities in the employee lifecycle for direct reports, including timekeeping, job assignments, training, and performance management.
- Break broader production strategies into practical action plans to support safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals.
- Evaluate job sites and work environments prior to work starting to ensure safe project setups.
- Understand and comply with all technical aspects of the job, including contract requirements and work instructions.
- Provide daily updates to management to support POD development and execution.
- Review project specifications and order all project materials according to contract requirements.
- Generate and submit production reports to management, meeting all technical and customer requirements.
- Ensure tools and resources are mobilized and demobilized appropriately, providing updates on damaged or lost equipment.
- Manage and initiate QA/Customer calls and attend TIP inspections.
- Serve as backup to General Foreman as needed.
Requirements
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree, Registered Apprentice, or HS diploma with at least 6 years of related trade experience.
- Must demonstrate ability to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW.
- Must have knowledge of AWS D1.1 and NAVSEA code/requirements.
- Must have experience in new industrial fabrication and new construction.
- Must have at least one year of experience in welding automation.
- Must be able to understand job specifications, drawings, and technical references.
- Must have regular, reliable attendance.

Additional Information
- Position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and may require hours beyond a standard work week.
- Minimal travel required, 10% or less.
- Physical requirements include lifting heavy equipment and working in extreme temperature environments.
