Job Description

Overview

The Welder position involves stitching and welding components and assemblies using the GMAW process, with additional skills in oxy/acetylene and plasma cutting being a plus. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of machines and tools, and will report to the Shop Foreman.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement efficiency improvements, cost reductions and profit improvement initiatives.
  • Correct and/or report any unsafe working conditions before they result in an accident.
  • Read blueprints.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material according to drawings or templates.
  • Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets.
  • Fasten seams and joints together with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, and bonds.
  • Fabricate or alter parts at construction sites using shears, hammers, punches, and drills.
  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces of assembled parts using hand tools and portable power tools.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs to complete electrical circuits.
  • Clamp, hold, stitch-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts for welding.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment using various welding processes.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating or warping of parts.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly.
  • Lift production objects of up to 50lbs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of welding experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Must pass AWS 4G welding test.
  • Knowledge of oxy/acetylene and plasma cutter use is a plus.
  • Must be able to read tape measure and basic print reading.

What you'll be running
