Job Description

Overview

The Welder-Ladder Construction position involves various types of weld preparation, welding, and weld finishing operations primarily in ladder construction and related areas. Candidates are expected to have experience in welding techniques and the ability to interpret mechanical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Proficient in assigned welding techniques.
  • Perform MIG and/or TIG welding.
  • Weld components in a flat, vertical, or overhead position.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, including weld requirement symbology.
  • Knowledge of wire and filler materials applications for various steel alloys and aluminum.
  • Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set up parameters.
  • Operate oxy/acetylene burning equipment.
  • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind and/or bolt component parts.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates.
  • Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
  • Lay out, position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly.
  • Use conventional and precision measuring instruments.
  • Process inspection, certification, and documentation.
  • Maintain welding equipment and detect faulty operation.
  • Finish grinding applications using manual and power tools.
  • Housekeeping clean and sweep areas daily.
  • Confer with and assist other associates to ensure production schedules are achieved.
  • Other duties as assigned by the area supervisor.

Requirements

  • One year experience in various forms of welding.
  • Vertical/horizontal/overhead welding experience preferred.
  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools.
  • Knowledge of raw materials and techniques for maximizing manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Basic math knowledge.
  • Possess a satisfactory safety record and be aware of others' safety.
  • Reliable, responsible, and dependable.
  • Attention to details.
  • Ability to work with other associates in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to pass welder qualification test within first year of employment per AWS D1.1 and/or D1.2.
