Overview
Steel America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a Welder Foreman for the 2nd Shift to support operations in Norfolk, VA. This supervisory role involves managing a team of skilled trades personnel to ensure safe and efficient production in ship repair and industrial fabrication.
Responsibilities
- Manage employee lifecycle activities including timekeeping, job assignments, training, and performance management.
- Break down production strategies into practical action plans for safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals.
- Evaluate job sites for safe project setups and efficient work evolutions.
- Ensure compliance with technical aspects of the job including contract requirements and work instructions.
- Provide daily updates to management for POD development and execution.
- Review project specifications and order materials as per contract requirements.
- Generate and submit production reports meeting technical and customer requirements.
- Ensure proper mobilization and demobilization of tools and resources.
- Manage project chemist certificates, daily CPs, and hot work permits.
- Initiate QA/Customer calls and attend TIP inspections.
- Serve as backup to General Foreman as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Registered Apprentice (grad) or HS with at least 6 years of related trade experience.
- Demonstrated ability to perform multi-pass, all position fillet and butt welds using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and NAVSEA code/requirements.
- Experience in new industrial fabrication and new construction.
- At least one year of experience in welding automation.
- Ability to understand job specifications, drawings, and technical references.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
