Overview

This position is a National Guard Title 32 excepted service role located within a National Guard aircraft maintenance organization, primarily focused on the inspection, repair, modification, installation, and troubleshooting of sheet metal and fiberglass components.

Responsibilities

  • Assists to fabricate, modify, and assemble a variety of rotary wing aircraft and aircraft sheet metal structural parts.
  • Assists with layouts and fabricates individual aircraft sheet metal parts from various materials.
  • Works with higher graded journey level sheet metal mechanics on larger operations.
  • Independently inspects aircraft and determines necessary repairs using technical orders.
  • Repairs cracks in aircraft skin and fabricates patches to restore strength.
  • Troubleshoots structural repair situations in fuselage, tails, wings, and stabilizers.
  • Aligns and balances component structures using precision measuring instruments.
  • Inspects damage or deterioration and determines repair or replacement of various materials.
  • Manufactures and tests metal tubing, conduits, and cables according to specifications.
  • Performs fabrication of locally manufactured items required for aircraft and equipment.
  • Sets up and operates various metal working equipment and tools.
  • Prepares and designs layouts, dies, jigs, and templates for fabrication.
  • Identifies and tests for metal corrosion and treats aircraft engines accordingly.
  • Removes corrosion using mechanical and chemical procedures.
  • Applies protective coatings, markings, and decals after corrosion treatment.
  • Identifies, blends, stores, controls, and disposes of hazardous materials.
  • May operate the wash rack and accomplish corrosion and washing inspections.
  • May assist in training drill status guard members and maintain publication files.
  • Prepares for and participates in readiness evaluations and inspections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
