Overview

At Wabash, Welders perform a variety of tasks in the manufacture of carbon, stainless steel, and aluminum products and subassemblies. They are expected to produce high-quality work while upholding production standards and may require passing Weld Tests and Certification Tests depending on the product line.

Responsibilities

  • Own and help improve performance in Safety, Quality, and Delivery
  • Carbon Steel/Aluminum/Stainless Steel MIG and/or TIG weld at a level that meets quality standards
  • Read engineering prints, weld symbols, and follow specifications
  • Perform basic operator preventative maintenance for welding related equipment
  • Maneuver in tight and small spaces
  • Work at heights of 15-20 ft.
  • Assist in different departments as assigned by the supervisor or team leader
  • Wear approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, and safety glasses
  • Complete assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must pass Weld Tests associated with product line prior to welding in production
  • Must pass respirator fit test
  • Basic reading, writing, math & verbal skills
  • Capable of following and understanding engineering prints, specifications & instructions

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
