Overview

CB&I delivers integrated storage and asset-management solutions that help customers operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. The Field Tank Welder is responsible for laying out, aligning, and welding components to assemble structural forms according to blueprints and metallurgy.

Responsibilities

  • Selects type and size of pipe or other materials according to specifications.
  • Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding using knowledge of geometry and welding techniques.
  • May use various welding processes including Gas-Metal Arc and Shielded Metal Arc.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together in various body positions.
  • Bolts, clamps, and welds metal components using arc welding equipment.
  • Connects cable from welding unit to obtain specified amperage and voltage.
  • Starts power supply to produce electric current for welding.
  • Strikes arc to generate heat and melt metal for joining work pieces.
  • Guides electrode or gun along weld-line to form specified depth of fusion.
  • May manually apply filler rod and clean weld joints.
  • Examines weld for bead size and specifications.
  • Loads, transports, and unloads materials and tools.
  • Assists in lifting and securing materials during installation.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
  • Assists other mechanics as needed.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with safety and project rules.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
