Overview

Smardt is a global leader in oil-free centrifugal chiller technology, focused on delivering high-efficiency thermal management solutions. The HVAC Brazer is responsible for assembling and joining copper piping and refrigeration components for HVAC water chillers, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Perform brazing of copper piping and refrigeration components using open flame torches.
  • Join copper tubing and piping to create strong, leak-free joints.
  • Assemble and install refrigerant piping systems for water chiller units.
  • Conduct leak testing of refrigerant circuits, including pressure testing and system evacuation.
  • Assist with refrigerant transfer and charging preparation.
  • Verify integrity of refrigeration piping systems prior to commissioning.
  • Assist with mechanical assembly of HVAC chiller units.
  • Organize and prepare materials and parts for assembly.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and piping layouts.
  • Support production teams to maintain manufacturing schedules and quality standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures and brazing best practices.
  • Inspect completed brazed joints for quality compliance.
  • Maintain brazing equipment and tools in safe working condition.
  • Identify and report defects, leaks, or assembly issues.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of brazing experience in HVAC, refrigeration, piping, or mechanical manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience with copper piping and refrigeration circuits is an asset.
  • Experience in HVAC equipment manufacturing, refrigeration systems, or industrial piping is highly desirable.
  • Technical training, trade school, or relevant work experience preferred.
  • Refrigerant handling certification is considered an asset.
  • Refrigeration mechanic or HVAC trade certification is an advantage.
  • Ability to braze copper joints using open flame torches.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration piping systems and brazing techniques.
  • Understanding of pressure testing and system evacuation procedures.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools and assembly equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong safety awareness when working with heat and pressurized systems.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
