The Upper Limb Fabrication Specialist role is a specialized position responsible for designing and fabricating complex upper limb prosthetic and orthotic devices, serving as a subject matter expert in the fabrication department.
Responsibilities
- Independently design, fabricate, and deliver complex upper limb prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Apply advanced knowledge of upper limb componentry to optimize device configurations.
- Interpret complex clinical work orders and resolve ambiguities independently.
- Fabricate custom sockets using advanced materials and techniques.
- Perform quality verification on completed upper limb devices.
- Serve as the primary in-house SME for upper limb prosthetic and orthotic fabrication.
- Partner with clinical staff to refine device designs and maintain patient focus.
- Evaluate and recommend new upper limb components and fabrication technologies.
- Provide consultation on cases involving unusual anatomy or revision surgeries.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives within the upper limb fabrication workflow.
- Support the Quality Engineer with NCRs, CAPAs, and QC returns.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for upper limb fabrication processes.
- Champion 5S standards within the upper limb work area.
- Serve as the primary trainer and technical mentor for fabricators.
- Assess competency levels of junior and mid-level fabricators.
- Develop and maintain training materials for upper limb fabrication.
- Independently determine methods and materials for new upper limb assignments.
- Assist in workload triage and prioritization for upper limb cases.
- Perform ordering, receiving, and inventory management for upper limb components.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated portfolio of complex upper limb device fabrication required.
- Relevant professional certifications or coursework in upper limb prosthetics strongly preferred.
- Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license.
