Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and fixing all aspects of the aquarium and its equipment, requiring a strong work ethic and the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. The role demands effective communication and excellent guest service skills while working cooperatively with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems using test equipment and hand tools.
  • Inspect electrical systems and components for hazards and compliance.
  • Repair or replace wiring and equipment.
  • Work with blueprints or instructions.
  • Utilize tools to repair and erect structures.
  • Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
  • Work at heights using stilts, ladders, and building beams.
  • Ensure work meets code and specifications.
  • Build aquarium program theming as needed.
  • Install conduit and pull wires or cables through it.
  • Create structures for pouring concrete.
  • Erect scaffolding.
  • Fasten boxes to walls for switches or outlets.
  • Replace glass panes, ceiling tiles, and doors.
  • Repair or build furniture.
  • Install partitions, doors, and windows.
  • Operate scissor lifts, pallet jacks, and forklifts.
  • Perform drywall repair.
  • Conduct basic plumbing repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Keep track of tools and inventory supplies.
  • Use a welder when necessary.
  • Replace switches, receptacles, and cord caps.
  • Conduct basic HVAC repairs.
  • Perform basic network cabling.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2+ years of commercial maintenance experience or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with current building codes.
  • Forklift certified.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Familiarity with current OSHA regulations.
