Overview

Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) as a Welder and contribute to maintaining highways and bridges in strong condition. This role involves hands-on opportunities to repair equipment and create reliable metal components, supporting statewide maintenance efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Preheat, clean, cut, and fit materials for welding.
  • Make repairs to vehicle bodies, engine parts, trailers, and maintenance machinery.
  • Repair plow frames, blades, spreaders, and related seasonal equipment.
  • Create replacement or modified parts using oxy-acetylene, electric arc, heli-arc, or other similar welding tools.
  • Weld and cut stainless steel, aluminum, and other specialized materials.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs and operate tools or vehicles such as forklifts or pickup trucks.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment; or
  • Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience; or
  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Additional Information

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • No telework option available.
  • Starting annual salary of $41,506.00 before taxes.
