Overview
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a motivated Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic to join the Montgomery County Maintenance Organization. This role involves maintaining essential equipment to support safe travel throughout the county in a supportive team environment that values strong maintenance skills and a commitment to public service.
Responsibilities
- Repair and overhaul trucks, cars, tractors, sweepers, mixers, and loaders.
- Perform diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and repairs to cooling, electrical, heating, and suspension systems.
- Conduct safety and emissions inspections, complete paperwork, and ensure vehicles meet specifications.
- Identify equipment issues and determine repairs, tools, and parts needed.
- Maintain a clean work area, report hazards, and use proper protective equipment.
- Make routine adjustments, demonstrate repair techniques, and assist other mechanics with major repairs.
Requirements
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
- Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
- Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at the time of application.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
Additional Information
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607.00 (before taxes).
