Overview

The CBP Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures and components, ensuring the operational readiness of aircraft systems. This role requires technical expertise in various aircraft systems and adherence to safety and operational protocols.

Responsibilities

• Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions.
• Perform daily, flight line, and hangar maintenance on all assigned aircraft.
• Conduct inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
• Provide own hand tools for aircraft maintenance; special tools and test equipment will be provided by Customs.
• Occasionally lead teams through complex aircraft tasks.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records as required.
• Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects.

Requirements

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CBP Background Investigation Suitability clearance; US Citizenship required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must hold a current airframe and power plant mechanic (A&P) certificate.
• Competent and knowledgeable in the repair and maintenance of airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems, and aircraft engines.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair.
• Working knowledge of military and general aviation aircraft airframe and engine logbooks.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, and micrometers.
• Working knowledge of technical publications.
• Able to follow procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
• Proficient in Office software applications, especially Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to meet required deadlines and maintain necessary workflow.
• Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
