Overview

The Welding and Inspection Technician position at Los Alamos National Laboratory involves supporting the refurbishment of confinement vessel systems through welding operations. The role requires candidates to become qualified for weld repair and gain inspection experience, with opportunities for career advancement depending on skills and qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Support the refurbishment of confinement vessel systems used throughout the DOE Complex.
• Become qualified for weld repair of HSLA-100 confinement vessels.
• Gain inspection experience and CWI certifications.
• Assist the production vessel team with site visits to fabrication vendors.
• Operate cranes and forklifts as required.
• Work as a radiological and beryllium worker.

Requirements

• For Engineered Systems Tec 2: Basic experience in SMAW, GTAW, and/or GMAW.
• Some experience with mechanical assemblies and fabrication processes.
• Basic understanding of standard shop equipment and tools.
• Knowledge of installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of equipment or systems.
• Ability to read and understand instructions, drawings, and specifications.
• Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance.
• For Engineered Systems Tec 3: Demonstrated experience in SMAW, GTAW, and/or GMAW.
• Proficient in reading and working to shop drawings.
• Demonstrated proficiency in standard shop equipment and tools.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Additional Information

• Work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM.
• Position commitment is 1 year.
