Overview

At M-B Companies, an Aebi Schmidt brand located in New Holstein, we pride ourselves on innovation, collaboration, and dedication to excellence. Welders are responsible for various types of weld preparation, MIG or TIG welding on aluminum, carbon steel and weld finishing operations to manufacture product to drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and operates welders and plasma cutter.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Measure and layout weldment components to blueprint specifications.
  • Operate hand grinder and sander to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Use conventional and precision measuring instruments to inspect and verify part conformance and accuracy of finished parts.
  • Process inspection, certification, and documentation.
  • Perform all welding tasks and related fabrication and finishing processes according to project needs.
  • Apply knowledge of metallurgy and material properties to the welding process.
  • Finish grinding applications using manual and power tools.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
  • Designs and constructs templates and fixtures upon receiving approval from supervisor.
  • Operate an overhead crane and forklift.

Requirements

  • Proficient in MIG or TIG welding techniques.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, including weld requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of AWS standards and symbols.
  • Knowledge of wire and filler material applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and other materials as needed.
  • Ability to work from established layout and follows sequence of operations.
  • Working knowledge of fixture and weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.).
  • Able to use hand tools, pneumatic tools, hand drills, impacts and hand grinders.
  • Able to enter information into established computer system, production records, logs, time clock, and other forms.
  • A strong understanding of clamping and fixturing principles to weld parts to specifications.
  • Experience of operating robotic welding equipment is a plus.
  • Understanding of mathematics.
  • Strong attention to detail.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG and TIG work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. It lays down metal fast and is forgiving on clean material, which is why it dominates production and light fabrication work. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
