Overview
Tapers are responsible for finishing walls, ceilings, and trim using hand and mechanical tools to meet finishing standards while ensuring production and quality. They apply drywall tape compound, work on new installations, and make repairs to existing structures, all while exceeding customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Finish walls, ceilings, and trim using hand and mechanical tools.
- Apply drywall tape compound to seams and surface indentations.
- Install and finish metal, plastic, and aluminum trims.
- Apply multiple coats of compound per specified finish level.
- Sand areas after each coat.
- Read and interpret drawings.
- Check working surfaces for tight and aligned panel joints.
- Establish work schedules and flow.
- Organize and verify materials.
- Clean and repair tools.
- Mix joint compounds.
- Apply fill and finish coats.
- Finish inside and outside corners.
- Perform dry, wet, and vacuum sanding.
- Skim coat over gypsum board and other materials.
- Spray finish compound.
- Understand the 5 levels and methods of drywall finishing.
- Work safely and maintain a safe work environment.
Requirements
- Ability to climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Good vision, either naturally or with correction.
