Overview
The Shop Combo Welder position offers a competitive wage of up to $37.00 per hour based on weld qualifications, with benefits available within the first 30 days of employment. Candidates must have experience in a Tier 1 Pipe Fabrication Shop and be capable of certifying on multi-process pipe while proficient in general welding processes.
Responsibilities
- Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
- Obtain specified electrode and insert it into portable holder or welding gun.
- Connect cables from welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
- Start power supply to produce electric current.
- Strike arc to generate heat and deposit metal from electrode to work piece.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Clean or degrease weld joint or work piece using appropriate tools.
- Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes as needed.
- Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
- Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter using hand scraper or power chipper.
- Preheat work piece using hand torch or heating furnace.
- Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
- Tack assemblies together as necessary.
- Cut metal plates or structural shapes.
- Pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
- Work in accordance with safe job practices and comply with company safety rules.
- Use required personal protective equipment and report unsafe conditions.
Requirements
- Must successfully pass the on-site Weld Test.
- Experience in a Tier 1 Pipe Fabrication Shop is required.
- Proficiency in multi-process pipe welding is necessary.
