Overview

The Trailer Body Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment to meet the standards set by the Department of Transportation and Werner Enterprises. This role is safety sensitive and involves various mechanical and electrical repairs.

Responsibilities

• Remove and replace brakes, brake drums, hubs, seals, bearings, races, and associated parts.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and lighting systems.
• Repair or replace chassis components such as springs, spring hangers, equalizers, complete slider assemblies, axles, and sub frames.
• Repair or replace ICC’s, ICC braces, mud flap brackets, dolly leg assemblies, and other associated parts using welding or cutting.
• Repair or replace flooring, rub rails, doors, door trim, and perform minor repairs to roofs, panels, and rails.
• Service and maintain refrigerated units, including changing oil and filters.
• Clean personal area during and at the end of each shift.
• Assist in cleaning other areas such as bathrooms, break rooms, and hallways.
• Assist other mechanics and fellow employees with their daily tasks.
• Perform any task outside those not listed in primary job functions.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent, except for high school seniors.
• Minimum 3 months mechanical experience.
• Minimum 3 months MIG welding experience with steel and aluminum.
• Experience with oxy-acetylene torch.
• Basic knowledge of engine and accessory components for repairing power units on refrigerated units.
• Comprehensive knowledge of all systems pertaining to tractor/trailer operations.
• Knowledge and use of hand tools from simple wrenches to pneumatic tools.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical or electrical problems.
• Ability to use a MIG welder, plasma cutter, and oxy-acetylene torches.
